Widgety Goodness Brighton
Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM (GMT)
Brighton, United Kingdom
Thursday December 6th 2007 * Corn Exchange, Brighton
Widgets have emerged as a key issue of online development during 2007. Widgets offer huge potential as carriers of marketing, brand and advertising messages into social networks. Successful widgets are viral in nature and are voluntarily taken and embedded in the host website. Widgetization means the breaking up of monolithic content into small packages that find their own destinations. Widgetization puts control into the hands of consumers. Decisions about what content sits where becomes driven by the intelligence of the end user, not by a remote editor.
Widgetization and fragmentation raise issues that go to the heart of brand control, but offers an incredibly powerful tool to those who can work with rather than against the process. Startups such as RockYou are now seeing hundres of millions of widget views per week right across the spectrum from blogs to MySpace to personal start pages such as iGoogle. The entry of Google itself into the space with the Google Gadget Ads product promises the opening up of managed channels into the social networks.
Speakers from major agencies, social networks, widget platforms and media groups will look at how widgets have come to prominence alongside the growth of blogging and social networks, but contain the potential in themselves to reform and remake the online world.
This one day conference is aimed at professionals in the marketing, brand, media and advertising industries. It will pose and attempt to answer some of the key questions around widgets and offer you the opportunity to meet and network with many of the professionals engaging with this space.
The move towards widgitization will affect all of us and move our customers into our embrace.
